IREC 19 UC 95,

As the first six months during which Ordinance 15 of

1894 has been in force has just expired, in pursuane of the ins- tractions attached thereto, I beg leave to submit the following

brief remarks on the working of the

Ordinance.

The provisions of the Ordinance are being steadily en-

forced. The work is being done quietly but at the same time firmly.

So far I have not received nor have I heard of a single complaint

regarding the manner in which this law is being enforced and cer-

tainly every precaution is being taken to prevent any one from having

any just cause for complaining. I need hardly say that if any con- plaint reaches me it will be carefully and thoroughly investigated

and the particulars duly laid before you. It seems to me desirable

Inspectors are carefully instructed

to reiterate that the Board's

to avoid, as far as possible, giving offence to house-holders when

making their inspections and I have not the slightest reason for

suspecting that they do not faithfully carry out these instructions

and yet at the same time properly inspect the premises of house-holde

in their respective districts.

With regard to section 10 of the Ordinance which is spe-

cially mentioned by the Right Honourable Her Majesty's Secretary of

State for the Colmies, I have to report that no less than 727 ins-

pections
